Richard Alston Dance Company welcomes new company members and says a fond farewell to Nancy Nerantzi and Oihana Vesga Bujan.
Richard Alston Dance Company is delighted to announce that Ellen Yilma will be joining the company. Ellen has previously worked for Watkins Dance and took part in the Barbican Exhibition Dancing Around Duchamp performing Merce Cunningham repertoire curated by Jeannie Steele. Her most recent performance work has been with Tavaziva Dance Company which she first joined as an apprentice and was moved up to become a company dancer in 2012.
Current apprentice Monique Jonas will become a full company member and joining as a new apprentice is Ania Jurek who graduates from London Contemporary Dance School this year. Nicholas Shikkis will be continuing his apprenticeship with the company for a second year, whilst completing his masters with London Contemporary Dance School.
After six years with Richard Alston Dance Company Nancy Nerantzi joins Rambert Dance Company. During her time with the Company Nancy was nominated for the 2015 Critic’s Circle National Dance Awards for Outstanding Modern Performance (female) for her leading role in Burning by Martin Lawrance, performance twice in the Fall for Dance Festival in New York City, as well as at the Virginia Arts Festival. She particularly enjoyed performances with the Britten Sinfonia at the Barbican (2013) and at Snape Maltings (2016).
Oihana Vesga Bujan leaves Richard Alston Dance Company to pursue her choreographic career after completing her MA in contemporary dance at London Contemporary Dance School. Oihana, who received the inaugural David Steele London Contemporary Dance School Choreography Award (2017) for graduating student work, performed her work Calle Leganitos at Resolution festival for new dance at The Place in 2016 and then took it to several festivals in Europe.
Richard Alston Dance Company dancer Liam Riddick will be interim Rehearsal Director for the company whilst Martin Lawrance is on sabbatical in the Philippines. Company dancer Ihsaan de Banya will work with Laura Gibson to choreograph a piece for Alston Inspired, the Arts Council England funded project at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton with locally based dance company, Two Thirds Sky.
You can catch the new company dancers in action during the Richard Alston Dance Company Autumn tour, which will be taking in venues across Britain from September to November 2017.
