Charles Balfour (Lighting Design for Red Run)

Charles has designed over 30 works with Richard Alston and was RADC technical director 1996 to 2000. Other numerous dance credits comprise works with Rambert, Martin Lawrance, Aletta Collins, and ballet companies including Scottish, San Francisco, Stuttgart, Atlanta, Vienna and Birmingham Royal Ballet. Recent theatre credits include: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Kite Runner, Queen Anne, Richard III, Mojo, Posh (West End); Rutherford and Son, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (National Theatre); Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Miss Littlewood, Seven Acts of Mercy, The Alchemist, Queen Anne, Hecuba, The Christmas Truce (Royal Shakespeare Company); The River (Broadway); The Suppliant Women, Ah Wilderness (Young Vic); Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare’s Globe); The Events (New York Theatre Workshop); Torn, The River, Choir Boy, Chicken Soup with Barley (Royal Court); The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (Donmar). Opera includes work at ENO, Hamburg, Basel, Antwerp, Athens, Ghent and Opera North.
