The ever musical Richard Alston Dance Company returns with a programme of critically acclaimed work.

In Tangent, Martin Lawrance explores the vivid accents and attack of Tango. Four couples, intertwined but shifting and subtly syncopating, glide through the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Tango master Piazzolla, played live by Jason Ridgway on piano.

★★★★★ ‘Forget Strictly - come see these wonderful dancers in exhilarating form.’ Herald (on the premiere of Tangent) September 2016

Next are two razor sharp short pieces by Richard Alston: the precise and succinct Isthmus Remix to music by Japanese composer Jo Kondo and Holderlin Fragments to the lyrical and intimate song-cycle by Benjamin Britten.

To close the evening Richard Alston’s Nomadic mixes Asian-influenced traditional Romany singing with the toughness of an urban beat. To explore the interaction between gypsy music and urban sound, Alston has collaborated with the hip hop choreographer Ajani Johnson-Goffe.

“Nomadic shines out like a beacon… recognisably Alston but possesses new ingredients in choreography that articulates the music superbly in a spicy blend of movement…It’s a tremendous ensemble piece” London Dance (Nomadic), Jan 2015
