Our Dance Training and Education programme trains contemporary dance teachers at advanced level and is the only one of its kind in the UK. It equips teachers to deliver confident, creative dance training to the highest conservatoire or company standard.

The programme is suitable for mature students and is especially aimed at those who have worked professionally as dancers, teachers or choreographers who now seek a nurturing environment that will support the further development of their practice in company or conservatoire level teaching.

Applications are equally welcome from those who teach classical forms as well as contemporary work – students from a range of disciplines have successfully completed the course. Students study the effective design and delivery of vocational training courses, incorporating a thorough understanding of somatics and applied biomechanics which lead to safe, sustainable dance practice. Throughout the course, the holistic development of individuals is emphasised, together with the reflective practice characteristic of study at postgraduate level.

This course may be taken part-time, to accommodate the working schedules of mature students.

Please note that many elements of this programme may be followed within the Advanced Dance Studies pathway, which is generally more suitable for applicants who seek opportunities to develop their practice as performers and/or choreographers alongside their teaching work.
